Edible Silver Foil (Varaq or Chaandi)

Edible silver foil is used for covering edible chocolates or other sweet. This edible silver foil has been used for many years in covering different items including:

• Barfi
• Decorating desserts
• Confections
• Rice dishes
• Paan

This thin silver is sold between two sheets of tissue paper so it does not tear or become wrinkled. There is no flavor or smell to it and it is very, very thin. As a matter of fact, they are so thin when they are touched they liquefy. To use it, you will leave the tissue paper on one side, lay the foil side down and then it will stick to the food, you then peel off the other tissue. Many India shops call it Varaq. To prevent it from tarnishing it must be stored in an airtight container and it will keep forever.
