Basil
Popularly known as part of the Italian and Greek cuisines, basil
is a herb native to India, cultivated since more than 5,000 years
ago, and also found growing wild in other tropical regions of
Asia.
Basil is also known as sweet basil, or St. Joseph's Wort. Sweet
Basil grows easily in other tropical climates around the world.
Both its silky leaves and white flowers are used for cooking,
and it is considered the "king of herbs" since ancestral
times.
Because of its aromatic flavor similar to anise, but with a sweet
smell especially when it is fresh, basil is used to prepare many
Indian dishes including:
• Aum Aum
• Kulfi Falooda Sundae
• Timatar ka Salad
• Roast Chicken Salad, etc.
If you want to keep basil dry without losing its flavor, put its
leaves in a jar with a pinch of salt, and cover them with olive
oil.
