Oceania Cuisine and Food Culture


Oceania is a wide spread section of the world which is located in the Pacific Ocean. Oceania land surface extend for 8,942,000 sq km, but the islands are scattered over a huge area whose land area is extremely low. Oceana includes a number of different countries, as well as small volcanic islands that have no names. Some of the countries that reside in Oceana are Australia, Indonesia, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Marshall Islands, and New Zealand. There are many Islands in the Oceania, and all these have their own culture and food cuisine of their own. Hence there is no such special or common cuisine which is shared by them all.

Philippines cuisine and food culture


Philippines comprises of 7,000 exotic and beautiful islands. The cuisine of this region is a mix of all these islands which offers tempting delicious and glorious Filipino Food. The Philippine cuisine is a unique mixture of eastern and western cuisine. The Cuisine of Philippine is a fascinating blend of Malay, Spanish and Chinese cultures. For the Filipinos, food is important and an integral part of local art and culture as well as communal existence. Meat and fish are common throughout the Philippines but there are also regional differences. Saltwater or freshwater fish are in abundance and is a part of Philippines cuisine. Filipino cooking is not too spicy despite the fact that spices are plentiful and readily available in the islands.

In Philippines extensive use of hot peppers is done in their cooking by the Bicol people of the southernmost portion. The staple food in some areas is rice whereas in others it may be cassava. Although at every Filipino meal, rice is available. The Filipinos are a gregarious and sociable people who love to party. The food is often at the center of their many celebrations. Filipino food combines Eastern and Western ideas and is strongly influenced by Chinese, Spanish and American traditions. Though the tropical climate is a kind in this region, many poor people subsist on little more than rice, sometimes stretched with the addition of corn. Others manage with rice lightly flavored with patis or bagoong sauce.
