About Chafer Pans
Chafer Pans are those food containers that can be heated continuously
by a portable flame for a long time to keep the food warm. Remember
those buffets or parties that you attended? The chafer pans are
those pans that contained all the dishes and/or desserts that
you ate. Decades ago, much effort was required to keep food fresh
and warm during occasions, and constant re-heating in the kitchens
was inevitable. Thank goodness to chafer pans and other chafer
utensils, cooks and food servers can now concentrate on just serving
the food and do not need to worry if all the dishes are in its
proper temperatures and taste its best.
Different types of chafer pans exist in the market, but the four
main classes of chafer pans are the economy type, the mid-end
type, the high-end type and the ultra-high-end type. The economy
type chafer pan is the cheapest and is usually the lightest. The
mid-end type of chafer pan is slightly heavier and a bit more
expensive than the economy type chafer pan. The high end type
of chafer pan is classy in design because of its brass component
and is often used by food service companies. Most expensive is
the ultra-high-end type of chafer pan that is usually composed
of silver and is very complicated in detail and design. While
the ultra-high-end type of chafer pan may be a bit heavy on the
pocket, it will save you more in the long run because of its topnotch
quality and durability.
So how exactly do chafer pans work and how do they keep the food
warm? First, a basin is filled with water and is heated by a portable
flame or any electrically-heated component. As long as the water
is kept warm, the food is kept warm. Over the years though, more
advanced chafer systems have been made and are still being made.
