About Electric Griddles
Electric griddles are thick, heavy metal plates or pans used
in dry cooking or in cooking with little fat or oil. Also called
girdles, these cast iron plates can produce mouth-watering dishes
because flavors are locked in when you sear the meat and vegetables
in the griddle. Electric griddles are used to cook eggs, pancakes,
grilled sandwiches, and foods that require big surface areas to
cook in. Electric griddles convey heat easily because of its flat
surface and releases excess heat into the air for even cooking
of food.
Some electric griddles are covered with a non-stick surface that
allows you to cook your foods without using any oil or butter.
Even the stickiest of foods like eggs and cheese won’t stick
to this type of electric griddle. Thus, not only do you get fat-free
cooking, you’ll also not waste much time in clean-up.
The electric griddle is one of the two main types of griddles.
It has heat insulators installed directly under a metal plate.
As you plug in the griddle, an electronic thermostat sets its’
intensity, giving you the heat you need to cook your meal. The
other type of griddle is the stove griddle. This kind of griddle
is composed of a heavy metal plate and can be directly placed
on top of a gas stove. The method here is to pre-heat the metal
plate with low to medium fire for ten minutes before putting the
raw food. The reason for this is to lessen the smoke that it will
give out since the searing process will lock the juices inside
the food.
When choosing an electric griddle, look for one with a heavy
metal plate and two kinds of surfaces. You would want a ridged
surface for easier cooking of meats, potatoes and sausages and
a smooth surface for eggs, pancakes and vegetables. The electric
griddle is perfect if you want to cook two things at the same
time in a short period of time.
