Steamers are very popular now for health conscience individuals or those that enjoy steamed foods. A steamer can be found in many Indian kitchens toady as well as other kitchen around the world.

A steamer back a few years ago was a metal pot type thing that when opened seemed to look like a flower petal. You would open it and place water inside and then in the basket add your vegetables that you desired to steam. Then you would turn on the heat and let the veggies steam. Today’s steamers come in many types:

• Metal baskets
• Metal inserts
• Fancy layered steamers
• Bamboo Steamers

You can even find electric steamers that allow you to step out of heat and let the steamer do the work. Many can be stacked up to steam more than one type of food at a time or used with for just one type of food.
