Recipe for cooking green beans in tomato sauce

This is popular in Northern Spain and Portugal.
1 med. onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, chopped
2 Tbsp. olive oil or canola (or other vegetable) oil
1 1/2 lb. (one and a half lbs. ) green beans, cut into 3-in. pieces
3 med. tomatoes, chopped
1/4 c. minced parsley
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. dried basil leaves
1/8 tsp. pepper
Cook and stir onion and garlic in oil in 3-quart saucepan until onion is tender. Add remaining ingredients except cheese. Cover and simmer over low heat until beans are tender, 15 to 20 mins.
Yields 6 servings.
