| This style of cooking was brought to India by the Mogul rulers. It is one of the most famous style of cooking and is equally famous outside India. Especially in India the tandoori style of cooking can be found from roadside eateries to 5 star hotels. The tandoor (appliance in which food is cooked) set up in hotels and restaurants is quite different from the ones available for household use. With the passage of time different types of tandoors were made and are now easily available in the market. Some of them are listed as under:
Clay Tandoors: Most widely used tandoors in restaurants and hotels, suited for a large number of people.
Drum Tandoors: Low-cost tandoors found mostly in roadside eateries.
Steel Tandoors: Steel outer covering insulated on the inside with clay or ceramic. Made for medium scale household use.
Coal Tandoors: Tandoors of any or every type using the fuel as charcoal. It is believed that this was the original way of cooking in a tandoor and the taste that comes with a coal tandoor cooked food is second to none.
Gas Tandoors: Modern day versions of tandoors using gas as the fuel for cooking food. Household tandoors are usually gas tandoors.
Electric Tandoors: Made of ceramic using electrical energy as the cooking medium.
